Horacio Correa is a Tax, Accounting, Valuation Professional with a Chemistry background who works with CEOs, business division leaders, partners, and small business owners to identify tax saving opportunities and assist clients with reaching Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and also performs asset valuations and appraisal services.
As a Tax Professional, Horacio has successfully worked with several clients in the industrial complex petrochemical industry and has worked with various oil field service companies. He has successfully saved millions of dollars for taxpayers with his valuation knowledge. He also assists taxpayers in claiming their pollution control exemption from various taxing jurisdictions. Furthermore, he worked with local, county and state officials in agreeing to tax abatements and tax relief exemption agreements for large capital spend projects.
His Cost Accounting background with his work experience with Japanese Manufacturing providers who implemented “Kaizen” process improvements assisted him in helping his clients in understanding how to properly remove waste and continuously improve based off metrics in order to hit KPIs. His Cost Accounting experience entails also timely closing, quarterly cycle count, audits and financial forecast. He’s worked with various clients on annual budgets and creation of excel models with some Visual Basic Application (VBA) coding in order to streamline repetitive tasks.
He performs industrial appraisal services for property, plant and equipment for the midstream and downstream industries, including, but not limited to, olefin refineries, chemical intermediate plants, and downstream polymer facilities. As a Machinery & Equipment Appraiser, he has worked on providing estimates of fair market value in use, ad valorem tax, and liquidation valuations for various purposes such as sale, acquisition, eminent domain, collateralization, insurance or residual forecasting. He also performed enterprise valuation for Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) 820, ASC 360, ASC 805 and ASC 718.
As a chemist who worked in the chemical industry and who worked with an extensive amount of analytical instrumentation allowed the overall scientific methodology to be instilled into work by identifying problems and finding solutions. He performed various qualitative and quantitative analysis using Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared and Near-Infrared instrumentation in order to assist his production team in learning of yield impurities. Prior to working as process chemist, he worked with compounding pharmacist who worked with controlled substances and Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).
In addition to his extensive Tax, Cost Account and Asset Valuation experience, Horacio is a licensed Property Tax Consultant, Licensed Appraiser Trainee with Texas Appraisal Licensing Commission Board, and an accredited Machinery & Equipment Appraiser with American Society of Appraisers.
He holds a degree from the University of Houston- Main Campus in Chemistry & Biology, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Houston-Clear Lake, and he is currently a CPA exam candidate.
